Welcome! Where do we begin! Well first of all, thank you for stopping by my site. My name is Nicki and I am excited that you are visiting in an effort to better understand this wild world of food! The goal here is to share a bit about myself so you can understand my philosophy and approach a bit better.
I am fortunate enough to be able to travel, live by mountains, enjoy amazing hiking and been given the opportunity to help others live out the best version of themselves. I enjoy weightlifting, hot yoga, cooking, reading, hiking/backpacking, Chuck Taylors and continued learning! I dig hanging out with my husband, kids and a few friends. Life is a constant journey from one season to the next with opportunities to change and grow into the absolute best version of ourselves!
I suppose on the outside, it would be said that I encourage people to welcome a more "holistic" approach to their diet. Focusing on whole foods as much as possible, minimizing processed items that you consume and adjusting areas of lifestyle are all important. To argue that would be to argue science and I just will not bother doing that. However, one of the massive missing links I feel exists in the Nutrition and Fitness space is that we either have to choose health or fitness. Why can't it be both?? I am determined to find that balance for all of my clients so they can continue to improve their health AND reach their fitness goals to create and awesome a life they can live well and enjoy. This really should not be a drag!
My personal journey towards improved nutrition and fitness began in the Summer of 2009. And journey probably is not the appropriate word. More like my face plant into wellness! There was nothing pretty about how I was feeling. I began working at a Compounding Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician. Prior to this, I had tried every diet under the sun but I never truly got my health, not just my weight, under control. I had no idea what was "wrong" with me but at that point it had been 7 years since I had my son and I had not felt fully myself since that time. I went on to be diagnosed with 3 Autoimmune conditions with 2 years. For some that may have destroyed them but for me it gave me hope that I could create change for myself and feel better because I found the root problem!
My love for fitness quickly followed. I had been an athlete in high school and stayed active for many years after but eventually fell into the busyness of life and became more sedentary than I like to admit. Long story short, I went on to fall in love with the link between athletic performance and nutrition. It is something I continue to learn about and feel that movement is crucial to wellness and overall health.
Chronic illness (or the mismanage of it), exhaustion, the "go big or go home" mentality and the lack of recovery we allow for our bodies, in my opinion, are creating a perfect storm and are commonplace in our world. So is social media and the game of comparison it manifests. This creates damage to our minds, self esteem and belief systems about ourselves in addition to our bodies that we have a hard time managing. I, personally, have had enough. I find it a responsibility to be share what I know and have learned to remind others that change is possible and that much of what we see is not real.
In early 2017, I left Pharmacy and took what I hold as my life's passion and mission into my own hands. We are not reinventing the wheel here but my desire for reaching those who battle with food dependency, others who want to improve what they eat to tackle bigger goals in their life, those who want to identify what limits them and overcome them or those who want a sustainable approach to nutrition and fitness, is what drives me forward. What you will NOT get with me is meal plans, quick fixes or unrealistic expectations. What you WILL get with me is nutrition direction, mindset growth, support, community and practical tools and habits for sustainable change. My approach is different than many coaches out there and that is perfectly fine with me. I go all in with my clients, determine what works for YOUR life so that you see the changes and get the results you want and are willing to work for.
